 Upgrading, cleaning, uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work.
 The only thing in the logfile that looks like an error is:

 Another odd thing is that the top of the logfile, it says that
 go-1.4 is installed and active even though I uninstalled it first
 and port installed go reports "None of the specified ports are
 installed.":

 But that may not be important.
