 Tiger is not something I would waste time on myself, since every time I
 try something out of curiosity it just doesn’t work. (Which leaves me
 surprised how someone could be using it in context of development.)

 I would invest some time in Leopard, provided ppc64 is fixed. That gonna
 make sense for G5.
