 Ok. Thanks. Following your suggestion, I used vim to remove that chunk
 from the Portfile.

 sudo vim
 var/macports/sources/rsync.macports.org/macports/release/tarballs/ports/aqua
 /emacs-mac-app/Portfile
 }}}

 on line 98 of the Portfile, remove
 {{{
 --shallow-since=${date}T00:00:00
 }}}

 The port then built without issue.
