 Ah, this was the error with the VLC3 libauhal:

 Which led to to a choice of disabling it in a hope PulseAudio will save
 us. Well, PulseAudio is broken and god knows which is broken worse :)

 P. S. On a side note, FreeBSD folks proposed an incredible solution to a
 broken `pulseaudio`: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/pulseaudio-
 problem.7388/#post-43341
