 port directory

 A symlink to the work directory is always under the port directory:

 {{{
 % sudo port extract kdelibs4
 % cd `port dir kdelibs4`

 % ls
 Portfile        files           work
 }}}

 and all these years in, I often just cd into work from there when I am
 working on a port, and cd .. back up again.

 But if you "rm -rf" the work directory from there, it indeed removes the
 symlink. You indeed must cd into the work directory to get at the crappy
 deep directory.
