Error: Unable to execute port: couldn't create error file for command: no such file or directory

What is the output of
	which whoami
and
	ls -l /usr/bin/whoami

If no whoami command can not be found, you probably need to  
reinstalled the BSD subsystem from your OS X installation DVD.
