I've attached a patch to that ticket
(http://trac.macports.org/attachment/ticket/17477/port.tcl.diff) that
integrates some of the *_select tools' functionality into port. I didn't want
to commit it to trunk until more people have taken a look at it (e.g., the
syntax: port select <module> <action> <options>).
