Perl 5.8.9 port activation failed

This repeats a number of times.

The MacPorts installation is not outdated so it was not updated
--->  Activating perl5.8 @5.8.9_1
Error: Activating perl5.8 @5.8.9_1 failed: Image error: /opt/local/bin/ 
corelist already exists and does not belong to a registered port.   
Unable to activate port perl5.8.
--->  Activating perl5.8 @5.8.9_1


How can I resolve this issue?
