[MacPorts] #14999: gd2 does not see fonts

Anthony,

Those are precisely the things I mentioned having seen.  What I want  
to know is how to do something about it and none of these suggest  
anything.

The closest I've come to a solution is the temporary (I think) one  
listed at http://www.lmpx.com/nav/article.php/news/php.net/php.gd.devel/557/read/index.html

However, putting the recommended text into my .profile had zero  
effect, so I'm still stumped.

 From what I've seen, it should be fontconfig doing this with gd as a  
fallback.
