How to get 32 bit versions of libstdc++ libraries installed on lion for gcc 4.6

How exactly does one upgrade a macports installation of gcc46 to
include the 32 bit versions of libstdc++.so.6 for cross compilation on
Lion?

I've tried:

sudo port upgrade --enforce-variants gcc46 +universal

However ppl pukes with various errors, related to this bug:
