MacPorts without root privileges: how?

It's the list of instructions that tells your computer how to compile and install a port.  

See http://guide.macports.org/#development and the next section as well.  See also http://trac.macports.org/wiki/FAQ#PortfileDevelopmentandMaintenanceQuestions.  Internals may be helpful http://guide.macports.org/#internals.  Also in the guide, try searching " root".  

In short, read the manual.
