Right, on a vanilla OS X 10.8 or later system, /Applications/Utilities/X11.app is a placeholder, inviting you to download and install XQuartz. Or if you’d prefer to have it installed with MacPorts, run “sudo port install xorg-server”; it’s the same software (though the MacPorts version will usually be slightly newer).
