I think the Migration page used to hint at that. In fact I generally do,
instead of listing all installed ports, limit it to the requested set:
 `port -qv installed requested and active`.

(This can, in rare cases, still bite you: if you have come to rely on
something provided by an old dependency in something outside of MacPorts. I
generally watch out for this and `port setrequested` them, but this
requires keeping a close eye on what things you might be installing outside
of MacPorts use.)
