<div>I just realized that, according to the chart I linked to in my last e-mail, AppleTalk over DDP (required for AppleTalk printers not capable of IP) is supported by Netatalk up to version 2.2. Also, "Setting up the PAP print server" is described in the manual for v. 2.2 – http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/2.2/htmldocs/ – while it is missing in the v. 3.0 manual: http://netatalk.sourceforge.net/3.0/htmldocs/</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The AT functionality featured by Netatalk 3.0 and up is almost identical to the one that comes with recent OS X versions. That probably means that there would be no gain in making it available for OS X via MacPorts. So in case someone would be willing to work on a fixed/updated port for OS X, v. 2.2 would be the best choice in my opinion.</div>

<div>The reason I want to install netatalk is because I have an old LW 4/600 PS which is not capable of TCP/IP. Next to that netatalk would enable me to connect to an old PowerMac I still have and also AppleTalk networking with SheepShaver/Basilisk II would work (which is more important to other people than to me).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>But even if an older system is capable of AppleTalk via IP, the supported AppleTalk version is often older than what recent versions of OS X can connect to. <div>Many of the protocols that were once built on top of AppleTalk are now<br/>
built on top of TCP/IP.<br/>
<br/>
I know that was done specifically for AppleShare; I don't know about<br/>
printing but I expect that Mac OS X now uses something like BSD's<br/>
print spooler.<br/>

"Disable AppleTalk" doesn't sound very promising - or do I get something wrong here? And on top I now get a different error, the same as reported at <a href="https://trac.macports.org/ticket/36674" target="_blank">https://trac.macports.org/ticket/36674</a> : incomplete definition of type 'struct _ipp_s'<br/>
