 I am starting to suspect a bug in the GC itself. However, the snippet runs
 flawlessly a recent (but not yet released) version of the GC, so the
 problem may have been fixed. I will investigate more, but as a work-
 around, set the AUTO_USE_TLC environment variable to 0.
