 the fix for me was to delete the following files:

 /usr/local/include/iconv.h
 /usr/local/lib/libiconv.2.4.0.dylib
 /usr/local/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
 /usr/local/lib/libiconv.dylib
 /usr/local/lib/libiconv.la
