 In rdoc, there used to be the following regexp

 {{{
       line.gsub!(/^(.{8}*?)([^\t\r\n]{0,7})\t/) do
 }}}

 which isn't supported by MacRuby, due ICU limitations. A workaround was
 applied but we should really emulate that behavior. Kouji wrote a Ruby
 prototype of the emulation here: https://gist.github.com/907895
