 I discovered an issue with your workaround description. I've decided to be
 very pedantic with an example in the form of a

 tl;dr If you declare outlets in an Obj-C header file, don't redefine those
 outlets in the ruby file. Doing so will limit your ability to access the
 values that are initialized when the class in instantiated by the nib.
