Apple says the omission is intentional (there’s no “hidden, internal” interface for them to use either. Any such addition would not be guaranteed to work in the future.
OTOH, I’m trying to find funding to do exactly that, and am looking at ways to do it. I’m hoping that if there’s a way to do it which convincingly increases security rather than creates additional holes (and doesn’t increase Apple’s support calls) that they may be more flexible in their stance. I am, BTW, convinced that such an approach is possible.
