Jeremy,
Do you have any older hardware to test Xquartz on? I am finding that x11 pymol seems to render much slower
than the MacPymol application on a Quicksilver dual G4 with Radeon 7500 graphics even though it reports...

OpenGL graphics engine:
  GL_VENDOR: ATI Technologies Inc.
GL_RENDERER: ATI Radeon 7500 OpenGL Engine
  GL_VERSION: 1.3 ATI-1.5.48
Detected 2 CPU cores. Enabled multithreaded rendering.
OpenGL quad-buffer stereo 3D detected and enabled.

The Representations demo runs much slower in x11 pymol as well as rotating
the results of the ray tracing demo.
        Jack
