Hi, I've just downloaded and compiled DCS on Mac OS 10.5.1. I'm unable to create a service on my node's LAN address, i.e. 192.168.0.101, in spite of making the following changes: $ diff caldavd-test.plist caldavd-dev.plist 35c35 < <string>localhost</string> --- > <string>myhostname.local</string> 54c54,57 < <array></array> --- > <array> > <string>127.0.0.1</string> > <string>192.168.0.101</string> > </array> $ Pointing my browser to 127.0.0.1:8009 appears to work. Port 8008 doesn't work: $ telnet 127.0.0.1 8008 Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host $ Similarly, a connection to 192.168.0.101:8009 is refused. However, a connection to 192.168.0.101:8008 succeeds but is dropped. E.g. $ telnet 192.168.0.101 8008 Trying 192.168.0.101... Connected to 192.168.0.101. Escape character is '^]'. GET / Connection closed by foreign host. $ After shutting down the server (i.e. sending 'run' a ctrl-C), connections are refused to all of the above connections/ports. There is no error file in logs/ , and there seems to be nothing appropriate on stdout/stderr . Any pointers would be gratefully received. Regards, Robert

I'm having problems to figure out all possible configuration options for account.xml file. There's any document describing them? I wasn't able to find them on the website. Thanks,

Calander Server - Groups in accounts.xml

Hi foks - any experience of configuring group calendars would be greatly appreciated. A long first post, but hopefully it makes sense. I am a new CalDAV user on Ubuntu 7.10 linux. I have successfully set up the server, and can create users by editing accounts.xml. We are using iCAL on a MAC as the client, and have to set the preferences area to see the calendars on the server - e.g., caldav://xxx.xxx.xxx.x:8008. This all works fine, but I do not know how to subscribe to them - or indeed if this is possible. So, I guess what I need to do next is to set up some kind of group for all of the users to either subscribe to, or add as a preference/account in the iCAL client. The instructions I have found on forums on the web do not explain clearly how this should be configured - but I have had a go - with no luck! The issue is that each user must know the other users' calendar server passwords in order to configure the preference/account in iCAL - and then they have full r/w/d access. Ideally, they should just have read access and the capablity to invite - lke a .MAC account. So, teh config above arose from the thought that a solution would be to set up a group, then I would only have to provide that group-id and password in order to set a preference/account in iCAL, which would show all calendars in the group - with goodness knows what access... but that's for later!!! With the above configuration, if I try to add an account, I get an error on the client like: Calendar caldav://xxx.xxx.xxx.x:8008/principals/users/allstaff/ could not be found. This is fair as I have not defined a user account in the accounts.xml - just a group. So, after looking at some other posts in this area, I was prompted to set up a resource and group in accounts.xml as above, and supposedly should be able to add a delegation in iCAL... but can't as I cannot see the resources listed. So I try to set up a delegation for a user by adding caldav://xxx.xxx.xxx.x:8008/principals/resources/resourcestaff/, and that fails: Cannot enable access to your account. "caldav://xxx.xxx.xxx.x:8008/principals/resources/resourcestaff/" was not found. So, I am a little confused on how to configure this - the groups definition does not seem to hang together by what is listed from looking at the principals areas via the browser. So, just to refresh the objective here, ideally I would like the users to subscribe to calendar server calendars - a bit like like .MAC by providing a url to the calendar server. If that is not possible, I would like to define a group that will provide a single uid and password, which when added as a preference/account to an iCAL client, will provide access to a whole bunch of calendars from the calendar server. So, if anyone has done this before, some advice on the config sections in accounts.xml and any other areas I may need to address would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! Running caldavd directly and repository configuration

Hi ! First, I've been able to run caldavd directly, WITHOUT running it using the ./run script (I'm saying this because it's the number one complain I have seen while looking for a solution). So, here are the steps : - Get the caldav source code using svn (following instructions on this page). Quick note, (because I was stung by this) you'll have to checkout it inside an empty directory (I did my initial checkout in my Sources/System directory, and ./run -s failed with a really wierd error message while DLing PyXML because I already had a PyXML folder in System). - Run ./run -s, so that it downloads all required dependencies (and builds them). - Next, you'll need to do a "python ./setup.py install" in each dependency directory (PyXML, pydirector, PyOpenDirectory, PyKerberos, Twisted, vobject). (sudo might be needed for some of them). Also, caldavd uses the web2 package from twisted, which is not installed by default, so you'll need to do an additionnal "python ./ twisted/web2/topfiles/setup.py install" while you're in the Twisted directory. - Go back to the CalendarServer directory, and issue "python ./ setup.py install". This will install caldavd to /usr/local/bin. - Now create /etc/caldavd, and add the required config files (caldavd.plist, accounts.xml, ...). You should be up and running. - I guess running it inside launchd is easy from there, but I still haven't managed to. I'm getting "Python: can't open file '': [Errno 2] No such file or directory" which I have no clue about what it mean, so I have abandoned trying using launchd for now. Now, here is the problem I'm having : When I try to connect to the repository using iCal on 10.5.1, I'm getting a stacktrace from caldavd (See 1 at the end of mail). It seems to indicate an error, but as I don't have any documentation on the inner guts of the repository, I don't know what to do. I tried mkdir- ing the missing directory (I'm not even sure it's a directory), it works, but iCal fails saying "500 Internal Error", and I have the stacktrace 2 in caldavd log. Right now I have created in /Library/CalendarServer : principals/ __uids__/ myuser/ ... + the missing UIDs that make iCal fail to connect. calendars/ Thanks in advance !
