When I try to compile gcc43, my computer locks up completely, apparently while trying to run ranlib to create the x86-64 version of libgfortran.a. I am sorry that I can not provide the exact state, but since the machine locks I can not save any state information. I can provide two other pieces of data. First, fink successfully builds the x86-64 version of libgfortran.a. Second, when I add the flag --disable-multilib to the configure.args line in the macports Portfile, gcc43 builds successfully. Probably due to the fact that Ada is self hosted. Nothing wrong with beeing self hosted - I think every self resprecting programming language should have at least one self hosted implementation. But the tiny twist ist: you need an Ada compiler to compile Ada. But this is no problem on Mac OS X as [http://www.macada.org/ MacAda] provides a working Ada implementating. Once you got an Ada compiler you can always use it to create a new version of itself. The attached patch will use either the MacAda compiler (+macada) or and an allready created MacPorts GCC with Ada support (+ada) to create a fully working GCC with all it's languages enabled. I hope this patch is accepted. #16277: sitecopy 0.16.3 fails in build phase ----------------------------------------------+----------------------------- Reporter: jlmuir(a)anl.gov | Owner: macports-tickets(a)lists.macosforge.org Type: defect | Status: new Priority: Normal | Milestone: Port Bugs Component: ports | Version: 1.6.0 Keywords: Undefined symbols _ne_set_status | ----------------------------------------------+----------------------------- When I do {{{ sudo port install sitecopy }}} I eventually get the following error in the build phase: {{{ Undefined symbols: "_ne_set_status", referenced from: _init in davdriver.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [sitecopy] Error 1 Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. }}} I inspected the sitecopy Portfile and found that it is fetching version 0.16.3 of sitecopy, but the latest version is 0.16.6. Also, the sitecopy web site has changed from http://www.lyra.org/sitecopy/ to http://www.manyfish.co.uk/sitecopy/; the Portfile is using the old web site. I also noticed that the Portfile does not include a dependency for neon. Even though sitecopy includes neon, I think it would be better to use the neon port to provide the library. I modified the Portfile (changes attached as Portfile.patch) by changing the version to 0.16.6, changing the homepage to the new one, and adding the following dependency: {{{ depends_lib port:neon }}} After making these changes, the port installed cleanly for me on Mac OS X 10.5.4. -- Ticket URL: <http://trac.macports.org/ticket/16277> MacPorts <http://www.macports.org/> Ports system for Mac OS
