When I tried to install 'texi2html' I got the following error: % sudo port -f install texi2html---> Building texi2html Error: Target org.macports.build returned: shell command " cd "/opt/local/var/macports/build/_opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_textproc_texi2html/work/texi2html-1.80" && make all " returned error 2 Command output: Making all in . make[1]: Nothing to be done for `all-am'. Making all in doc Generating texi2html.1... sed: 1: "s/[@]PACKAGE_DATE[@]/18 ...": bad flag in substitute command: 'c' make[1]: *** [texi2html.1] Error 1 make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. ============================================== I'm pretty sure the problem has to do with the setting of this env variable 'PACKAGE_DATE' which keeps getting set to '18:44 January ./configure.ac'. In the executable file 'configure' I changed line 2276 from: PACKAGE_DATE=`"$srcdir"/mdate-sh "$srcdir"/configure.ac` to: PACKAGE_DATE=`"$srcdir"/mdate-sh` Then I followed the instructions in the 'INSTALL' file: 1)make clean 2)sh ./configure 3)make 4)make install which finished without complaint. So I was feeling all pleased with myself that I got it to compile, but when I tried to install(also tried build btw) 'texlive' again I got the following error: % sudo port -f install texlive ---> Installing texi2html @1.80_0 Error: Target org.macports.install returned: Registry error: texi2html @1.80_0 already registered as installed. Please uninstall it first. Error: The following dependencies failed to build: texlive_base texi2html Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. ================================================================= So I tried to install 'texlive_base', but the sam problem: % sudo port -f install texlive_base ---> Installing texi2html @1.80_0 Error: Target org.macports.install returned: Registry error: texi2html @1.80_0 already registered as installed. Please uninstall it first. Error: The following dependencies failed to build: texi2html Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. ============================================================= Anyone know what I should do here? Seems like MacPorts won't accept the build of a dependency that is complied by me, the user, only its own builds. There's probably some simple thing I must do to get it to work, but it was not clear to me from looking at the Guide. I have observed the same problem in the edit boxes of the xfig port so this could as well actually be a bug in one of X11's widget libraries these two applications are linked against. This is in particular significant for ports that have cross dependencies and/or use fortran. For instance, octave depends on g95, and has 2 variants : gcc42 and gcc43. Arpack depends on gcc42 and also has variants for g95 and gcc43. py25-scipy depends on gcc43 and has variants for gcc42 and gcc44, etc. Marc suggested that we switch to gcc43 as a default variant for both octave and arpack, and I think we should extend this to all scientific related ports. Indeed, the initial issue arose when I tried compiling octave-arpack (depends on both octave and arpack), since two (very large) compiler packages where getting pulled and compiled. I'd like some feedback on this issue from maintainers of scientific related packages, I've tried to CC most of those I could think of. So far I've tried gcj34 as well as gcc42, gcc43, gcc44-20080712, and gcc44-20080718. From checking the issues lists, it appears that GCC 4.2 should work for Intel; however I get {{{ internal compiler error: in uses_jv_markobj_p, at java/boehm.c:245 }}} trying to compile HelloWorld.java. I was able to Google one or two non- Mac occurrences of this but they didn't lead me to anything useful. The issues list seems to verify that I need to upgrade to 10.5 to run GCC4.3 with Java support so I didn't continue trying to get that version to work. The GCC4.4 port notes that some language front-ends are not yet supported but doesn't say which ones. Is Java supported yet? But if I have a Portfile elsewhere in the repository, such as under users/*/*, then the script emails me an error instead: {{{ Portfile: pure-devel Error: Unable to open port: Could not find Portfile in /tmp/mp_lint/36446/ryandesign/pure-devel }}} trunk/dports seems to be hardcoded into the script. But the script should support Portfiles, wherever in the repository they may be.
