Unison itself does not crash or display an error message, but it consumes more and more memory until the machine reboots. Other processes also become unresponsive, i.e. once the unison command is launched there is no way to recover. For reasons discussed in this ticket https://trac.macports.org/ticket/45621 this has been tested with various versions (unison 2.40.102 compiled against ocaml 4.01 and 4.02, and unison 2.48.3 against ocaml 4.01). They all exhibit the same behaviour. Unison on FreeBSD runs fine on the same set of files (all versions). Also, a temporary workaround on Mac OS X is to run unison with the option "copythreshold = 1024", which makes unison use rsync to transfer large files. This might well be an upstream bug. The changes include... 1) Pass -with-libiconv-prefix=${prefix} to configure so that the proper libiconv is used (as the Portfile has depends_lib port:libiconv. 2) Reduce alignment in boehm-gc to 2 with boehm-gc-darwin15-hack.patch in order to suppress breakage from the recompilation of the system libunwind.dylib against Apple Clang 7.0 in darwin15. 3) Apply gcj-libiconv-linkage.patch to provide the appropriate linkage on libiconv automatically for executables created with gcj. 4) In order to create ecj1 during the build, ecj-4.9.jar is added to distfiles and copied into the source directory as ecj.jar per upstream's build instructions for gcj. It correctly finds + gets the qt4-mac settings, but in the configure from bacula it fails to find QMAKE and Qt4Gui.
