ESD loads the system on idle

Hi, The following problem started to pop up recently, though I am not sure what I did (probably upgraded the outdated packages including some GNOME ones): ESD launches fine, plays the sounds fine, but during idle moments it doesn't just sit there, but sits there loading the system (to 99% or thereabouts). Interestingly enough, the load goes down when ESD actually play sounds, the load is high only when idle. Is there any known cause of this, or any way of debugging the matter further. Error Executing "port -R upgrade pango"

I noticed that pango got updated. So I perform the following: % sudo port -R upgrade pango ---> Deactivating pango 1.16.1_0 ---> Fetching pango ---> Verifying checksum(s) for pango ---> Extracting pango ---> Applying patches to pango ---> Configuring pango ---> Building pango with target all ---> Staging pango into destroot ---> Packaging tgz archive for pango 1.16.1_1 ---> Installing pango 1.16.1_1 ---> Activating pango 1.16.1_1 ---> Cleaning pango ---> Unpacking tgz archive for pango 1.16.1_1 ---> Deactivating pango 1.16.1_0 Error: Deactivating pango 1.16.1_0 failed: Active version of pango is not 1.16.1_0 but 1.16.1_1. What's up w/ the error? Is this a bug?

I've submitted Trac tickets for two new proposed ports: raptor-1.4.14 (http://trac.macports.org/projects/macports/ticket/11567) rasqal-0.9.13 (http://trac.macports.org/projects/macports/ticket/11574) I hope that you will consider including these in MacPorts.

Awk issues: system awk vs [ng]awk in ports

Apropos of jkorchok(a)hotmail.com's issue, I am seeing some errors from awk. Are different versions in use? This is what I get from a failed upgrade to gnome-doc-utils: Making all in gnome-doc-make make[2]: Nothing to be done for `all'. It *is* on the awk I have on FreeBSD (actually, gawk). I've installed XCode Tools 2.4.1, and still get the same error messages. gcc41 on the other hand appears to be building fine. Need Help Making Freeciv Re-distributable

Hi. I am trying to make Freeciv re-distributable (current version is 2.1.0-beta3); that is, making it run w/o having to install MacPorts. I've had very good success in the past. But after I upgraded my ports recently, things stopped working. After I upgraded my ports and built Freeciv, the games runs fine. So there is something amiss w/ what I am doing. A brief description of what I do to make Freeciv re-distributable is as follows: I've copied all the needed binary files to a location other than /opt/ local. These files have had their dependency paths re-written using otool and install_name_tool. I also have made copies of the needed config files from /opt/local/etc, and have modified them to point away from /opt/local. In the launcher script I wrote to start the game executable, the following environment variables are set for the dependent ports fontconfig, pango, and gtk2: FONTCONFIG_FILE PANGO_RC_FILE GDK_PIXBUF_MODULE_FILE GTK_IM_MODULE_FILE When I run the modified civclient binary via the launcher script, I get the following messages: (freeciv:2564): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library. Using the fallback 'C' locale. (freeciv:2564): Pango-WARNING **: No builtin or dynamically loaded modules were found. Pango will not work correctly. This probably means there was an error in the creation of: '/opt/local/etc/pango/pango.modules' You should create this file by running pango-querymodules. (freeciv:2564): Pango-WARNING **: pango_shape called with bad font, expect ugly output (freeciv:2564): Pango-WARNING **: pango_font_get_glyph_extents called with null font argument, expect ugly output (freeciv:2564): Pango-WARNING **: pango_font_get_metrics called with null font argument, expect ugly output (freeciv:2564): Pango-WARNING **: _pango_cairo_font_install called with bad font, expect ugly output The locale warning has been there for a while. I don't know what it means, but it has never caused the executable to not work in the past. The warnings about Pango are new, though. Freeciv runs despite the warnings, but in place of where text should be, each letter is rendered as a rectangle. Can someone w/ experience in making binary distributions based on MacPorts shed some light on my current dilemma? Thanks!

Intel Mac and Darwinports

Hello all! I hope this subject has not been addressed. I have a new Intel Mac and am trying to install Darwinports on it. The software installs but when I execute the "port selfupdate" command I receive the following message: daniel$ port selfupdate can't find package Pextlib 1.0 while executing "package_native require Pextlib 1.0" ("eval" body line 1) invoked from within "eval package_native $args" (procedure "package" line 14) invoked from within "package require Pextlib 1.0" (procedure "dportinit" line 311) invoked from within "dportinit ui_options global_options global_variations" Error: /opt/local/bin/port: Failed to initialize ports system, can't find package Pextlib 1.0 Any suggestions for a fix? Help with applying a patch to a port

I am trying to figure out the easiest way to apply a patch to a port and still use the port command to install and uninstall etc. The port is giflib and the patch file is here. <http://users.own-hero.net/~decoder/fuzzyocr/giftext-segfault.patch> Is there a simple way to modify the local portfile to install this patch for me. sqlite3 install error
