Is there a port of Wireless Tools? I'm familiar with a package by that name for the Zaurus, it contains a number of utilities for working with 802.11 wireless cards, but I don't see anything similar in "port list". I'm aware of the hidden "airport" program and that won't work. Walt

tclsh malloc error and what does -R do?

I use -R when upgrading something with dependents, because I think it is going to upgrade or recompile/relink the packages that depend on what I'm upgrading. But, I think it just upgrades all of my outdated ports, is that right? For example I used sudo port upgrade -R python24 and it upgraded most of my outdated ports, such as gtk2, and stopped on an error before moving on to the last port. So, what does -R do? Changing the subject: When I upgrade and many ports are upgraded, the process often ends with this error: tclsh(41595,0xa0081074) malloc: *** mmap(size=446464) failed (error code=12) *** error: can't allocate region *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug unable to alloc 443225 bytes Abort trap I don't recall if this happens also when that happens, but this time, just before the malloc error, I get: Error: Variant headercache conflicts with db4 Error: Unable to open port: Error evaluating variants The final port that was going to probably be upgraded was mutt-devel, which depends on db44. I don't recall if mutt was among the ports being upgraded whenever I got this error. Actually, I'm not going to look at mutt now, so I've uninstalled it. But, do you know if the malloc error is a general problem with upgrading many ports, or if it means my ports system is screwed up somehow, or if it is a problem with db44 or mutt-devel? Kendall

Upgrade from tiger to lepoard

I have macports 1.6.0 install on a computer running tiger (10.4.11) and I want to upgrade to lepoard. Should I uninstall the the ports, uninstall macports, install leopard, install macports for 10.5, and then install my ports or this there a better less involved way? Stuart Chalk

No, you need X11 and XCode according to the MacPorts install instructions. Port library

Dear macporters, I am unable to get the following library, not in macports, to compile on os x 10.5.2. : http://bebop.cs.berkeley.edu/oski I have gfortran 4.2.1 from apple preview, gfortran 4.3 from hpc.sourceforge.net, tried with updated automake and autoconf from macports and last libtool (2.2). I always get the same error: Undefined symbols: "_MAIN__", referenced from: _main in fmain.o Thanks for any help, Boolegue.

Not too much more. :) There is a guide: http://guide.macports.org/ And also you can look at the thousands of existing portfiles to see how things are done. For example, to see how the ImageMagick port is written, you can type "port cat ImageMagick" or, if you have your EDITOR environment variable set up correctly, "port edit ImageMagick". Remote build facilities

Hi, I'm one of the main developers for a GPLed kid's educational game, TuxMath. (http://www.tux4kids.com) I develop on Linux, but my daughters' school uses Macs. Our Mac port is woefully out of date, and the teachers at their school are eager to get it updated. The other main developer of TuxMath has started a macports project for TuxMath, but it's apparently running into snags in the build process. I'd like to try to help out, but I don't have a Mac. Is there a way to get some kind of developer account on a Mac somewhere (preferably one already set up as a macports development environment), so that I could work on it remotely? I have the impression that Debian has servers for the use of their developers, I wonder if there is something analogous for Macs. Best, --Tim

Difficulties installing PHP iMagick with MacPorts ImageMagick installation

I've installed php5 @5.2.5 and ImageMagick @6.3.9 with MacPorts 1.6 on Leopard. I then wanted to install the PHP wrapper for ImageMagick, namely iMagick. Since iMagick is not a port, I decided to follow recommendations and use > pecl install imagick or rather, to avoid any confusion > sudo /opt/local/bin/pecl install imagick The installation begin but always ends in the following error: checking ImageMagick MagickWand API configuration program... configure: error: not found. Please provide a path to MagickWand- config or Wand-config program. Gnome-vfs just got updated to version 2.22 at the same time that glib was updated to 2.16 (these are upstream updates). Once MacPorts gets everything in sync with the GNOME 2.22 release which is a few days old, then things should just work again.
