Getting a corrupt value reading an NSNumber unsignedLongLongValue

I was trying to get the PersistentID from iTunes tracks from both ScriptingBridge and the notifications iTunes posts to NSDistributedNotificationCenter. I noticed I was getting different results from each. The first byte from the number read from the notification is nearly always garbled (I suspect, only the first two bits). Notice how the first digit tends to differ. Could someone try to reduce this and take the notification center and iTunes out of the picture and see if it's just a problem with NSNumber?

If that's not working for you and you're getting errors with library files being loaded multiple times, you should check that $: (aka $LOAD_PATH) is set correctly and you're not requiring files with relative pathnames. The names stored in $" aren't normalised, they're exactly what you passed to require, so if you have a file hierarchy like main.rb lib/ | foo.rb | bar.rb \ baz/ \ asd.rb where main.rb includes require './lib/baz/asd' require './lib/bar' and asd.rb has require '../bar' then bar will be included twice since '../bar' does not match './lib/bar'. what you should do is add the lib directory to $: and then change the require lines in main.rb to require 'baz/asd' require 'bar' and in asd.rb to require 'bar' so that the normal mechanism that require uses to only load files once can actually work as designed. If for some reason this is impossible, you could also change all your require lines from require '../bar' to require File.expand_path('../bar') which should expand everything out to absolute paths so that (once again) the path matching in require can work as designed. cheers Russell

[ANN] The Flying Camera (game)

Hai, I hope it's okay to show off with our little game on the mailinglist. Over the weekend we participated in a contest at the Super Gamedev Weekend at the metalab[1] in Vienna. Against the hard competition of games developed in Objectiv-C (for the iPad), pygame, HTML, Flash and even C++ (the only team who couldn't finish) our game in MacRuby did beat them all. Well, not in voting category "Fun" (who needs that in a game?), but in "Theme" (it was Black&White) and it took the win in the final round of voting on "overall impression". We used MacRuby and OpenGL, we didn't manage to draw any fonts, the fullscreen mode is not reliable and the Release build seems to work on if one has macruby installed. ObjectController binding is dead

Hi, Thank you for the hard work on the project. I installed 0.8 release and found one serious bug (I think). All the bindings to ObjectControllers are dead. I checked nightly builds one by one and found that all the bindings work fine until 12/6 nightly and they are dead after 12/7, including 0.8 release. I'm wondering if this is specific to my environment or to my project. Best, Yasu

Updated Roadmap

It looks like the MacRuby Roadmap[1] hasn't been updated since before 0.5 was released. I was surprised (albeit pleasantly) to see the release of 0.8 yesterday, since the due date in Trac[2] was set for February 19, 2011. However, there doesn't appear to be a due date set for any future releases[3]. I would love to get a better sense of the goals, scope, and timeline for these upcoming releases. For example: Is it a goal of the 1.0 release to pass 100% of RubySpecs? If not, are there more modest, pragmatic goals (e.g. running Rails)? Are there any hard deadlines for MacRuby driven by Mac OS X Lion? Tracking progress against RubySpec over time

Does MacRuby maintain a chart of progress running RubySpecs, like the one that GemStone generates for MagLev[1]? I know I could just run the specs myself, but I'd love to be able to see, at a glance, what percentage of specs are passing for MacRuby and how progress against RubySpec is accelerating over time. I found an announcement from over a year ago which stated: "At the time of this writing, MacRuby passes about 91% of the language specs, 80% of the core specs and 72% of the library specs. Our objective is to pass as many RubySpecs as possible."[2] but I haven't seen any updates since then. Announcing Hubcap

I'm pleased to announce that I will be building my first MacRuby app: a social GitHub client, which I'm calling Hubcap. I am currently funding the project on Kickstarter: http://kck.st/ebH9MC There's still time for you to pledge to receive early access to alpha/beta builds of the app. I would be honored to have the support and backing of the MacRuby community. One of my goals is for Hubcap to be a killer app for MacRuby, encouraging Ruby developers to read the source code and create Mac apps of their own. I will also be submitting detailed bug reports as I uncover issues on the march to MacRuby 1.0!
