Concurrency bug in ControlTower

Apologies reporting this here; I'm not sure where I should report bugs in ControlTower. I believe there's a bug in ControlTower around line 34: def open @status = :open while (@status == :open) connection = @socket.accept # << here @request_queue.async(@request_group) do The "connection" local variable is used in the async block below to parse the request and send the response. Unless MacRuby's blocks behave differently than regular Ruby, this variable is shared across all activations of that block. As a result, it's possible that two concurrent requests will end up using each others' connection, and usually just blowing up as a result. The fix I've come up with is to wrap the @request_queue.async call in a tap call: def open @status = :open while (@status == :open) conn = @socket.accept conn.tap do |connection| @request_queue.async(@request_group) do Since async can't accept any explicitly-passed state, this seems like the safest way to ensure the connection reference is not shared by separate invocations. I'm not sure if it's possible in GCD, but having async take an optional argument with explicitly-passed state might also be a good way to fix this. - Charlie

macruby_deploy and nokogiri - LoadError on some mac

Hi I tried to use macruby_deploy to embed my macruby based mac app with gems (/usr/local/bin/macruby_deploy --compile --embed --gem nokogiri) The resulting app run fine on my machine. However, on many of our testers, the app failed with "LoadError". It seems nokogiri depends on a libiconv with different version. (nokogiri.bundle requires version 8.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 7.0.0) We cant ask our user to install each of those library. Are there any way I can build the app embed the correct version of libiconv? When building MacRuby, rake picks up rvm_make_flags, which causes it to error out because it doesn't recognize -j. So I commented that line out of .rvmrc. Next, I found that whatever I tried, RVM would not call rake with archs=i386, so it was targeting x86_64. I fixed this by editing ~/.rvm/scripts/functions/manage/macruby, changing 'rvm_ruby_make="rake"' to 'rvm_ruby_make="rake jobs=3 archs=i386"'. This seemed to build MacRuby just fine, but failed to install RubyGems afterward. Need to Write Core Data Accessors in MacRuby?

Howdy, I've Core Data a lot in Objective-c and now I am trying to use it in MacRuby. It occurs to me that I might need to create the to-many relationship accessors just like you have to do in Objective-C. To clarify: Suppose I have a data model that models a file structure and which looks like this: Folder{ name:string parent<<-->Folder.subFolders subFolders<-->>Folder.parent files<-->>File.folder } File{ name:string folder<<-->Folder.file } In Objective-C, I would normally have methods in the `Folder` class that would look like: addSubFoldersObject: removeSubFoldersObject: addSubFoldersObjects: removeSubFoldersObjects: The methods themselves would use look something like: - (void)addSubFoldersObject:(FetchedPropertyExtractor *)value { NSSet *changedObjects = [[NSSet alloc] initWithObjects:&value count:1]; [self willChangeValueForKey:@"SubFolders" withSetMutation:NSKeyValueUnionSetMutation usingObjects:changedObjects]; [[self primitiveValueForKey:@"SubFolders"] addObject:value]; [self didChangeValueForKey:@"SubFolders" withSetMutation:NSKeyValueUnionSetMutation usingObjects:changedObjects]; [changedObjects release]; } Do you have to do the same thing in MacRuby or will the normal ruby set operations suffice? Do MacRuby apps take longer to be reviewed on the Mac App Store?

Mine's been 'in review' for two days now... maybe they are trying to tell me they don't like my app :p How long did it take for your app to get reviewed? I'm guessing they have to be reviewed by a team that knows MacRuby - hence it might be a bit longer than normal. (My app is only about 140 lines of code).

Migrating branches tags/0.x to actual tags v0.x

Hi, one thing bugs me about the macruby repo on github: There are branches called tags/0.x instead of actual tags. I've written a small script that migrates all the tags/0.x branches to actual v0.x tags. xcode binding a class within a class?

Is it possible to bind classes in xcode to a class within a class? Say for instance the file's owner of an app (NSApplication) to a class within a class (MyApp::Application), or everything must go in the global namespace? Regards, - Rob
