I haven't used iCal server myself yet, so please excuse me if this is  
a dumb suggestion, but this kinda looks like it could be a users /  
permissions issue.

Is your data directory, then, on a partition that supports extended  
(see section 2 of <http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/
