Comment:

 The native OS X sink was broken on some versions (e.g. worked on 10.6, not
 on 10.7) because Apple changed the API. The libao sink works on most, if
 not all, versions. Let the libao developers chase that moving target
 rather than putting that burden on the developers of each piece of
 software that needs audio output.
