 Thank you very much for this information.
 My grumpy attitude was caused by the message in previous tickets on this
 subject that coreaudio was broken and abandoned by mpd developers, period.
 No info was give about any suggested workaround for Mac OSX.

 I have installed libao, entered it into the "audio output" section and now
 all is working flawlessly.
 Again, thank you for the libao suggestion.
