Universal variants are added automatically to allow generation of
applications which can be used on both PowerPC and Intel processers.
If the application uses ./configure then normally it works or can be
very simple added.

But most of the time you don't need universal variants; only if you want
to use the same binary on PowerPC and Intel processors.
