Uhm, yes they are.  The new fc-binaries link to libfontconfig which  
know about the location.  If they didn't know where the files were,  
they wouldn't be able to parse them, and you *would* have major  
breakage.

This looks like fc-match is actually NOT leopard's fc-match but  
possibly another from source.

It does when you install the latest package from  
xquartz.macosforge.org (and then run fc-cache or reboot)
