I am not talking about building X11, and I am not talking about *new* 
software projects. I am talking about existing software like 
xaw3d/transfig/xfig.

Here is a quote from the xfig site, dated 2007-03-21

Xfig is one of the reasons why people are using X11 on the Mac, as there 
  is no equivalent aqua program. It builds fine with the "deprecated", 
"outdated", "incorrect" xmkmf/imake that comes with Leopard. It won't 
any more in the future.

And I am also not mainly representing Fink here, because for Fink there 
is a solution. I am more thinking about unsuspecting users who are 
trying to build these programs themselves independent of Fink or 
Macports. They will be left out in the cold.

P.S. As far as I know, Fink is using the pc files for version checking 
now, so you can remove the "7.2" version string.
