The official binary doesn't work right the tablet, so I followed the  
instructions here:

http://www.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/CompilingMacOsX

I followed the section titled "Compiling Inkscape with X11, using  
MacPorts [Recommended Method].

I did all of this after installing the updated xquartz.
