Because XQuartz's environment is inherited by all child processes  
(which means it should reflect the user's environmernt).  As a more  
immediate effect, $PATH is searched through for applications launched  
from the Applications menu... so macports, fink, gentoo/alt, /usr/ 
local, etc applications need their full path provided (and not have a  
complete environment when launched).
