Basically anything using libXft...

And to answer Peter's original question, you can "trick" libXft to do  
something different with something like:

xrdb -nocpp -merge - << EOF
Xft.antialias:  1
Xft.dpi:        100
Xft.hinting:    1
Xft.hintstyle:  hintmedium
Xft.rgba:       none
EOF
