That's a copy-paste bug.  It's fixed in git, but it's not in a  
released X11 yet.

I doubt that error message is releated, but you can try disabling  
pbproxy to see if it has any effect.

There were no X11 updates in 10.6.1... I'd be curious what the state  
of 'xmodmap -pk' reports when you're in this state.

As mentioned last week, I'm having a bit of a hiccup building 2.4.1.   
The code is ready to release, but I've encountered an odd bug in the  
build process with Sparkle.  If I can't get it addressed in the next  
day or so, I'll probably do a sparkle-less 2.4.1 alpha.
