Source tarballs have moved

We will no longer be serving source tarballs from src.macosforge.org. They are now fetched from opensource.apple.com. If you used to rely on the apache index at src.macosforge.org for looking for tarballs, you can now browse at: http://opensource.apple.com/tarballs/ This is mostly a cosmetic change, they are the same tarballs on the same server, we are just reorganizing things on the backend. There is a redirection in place on the server so that when darwinbuild tries to fetch a tarball, it will find it in the new location. If you find that you can no longer fetch sources, please let me know. For now, Roots and BinaryRoots are not affected by this change, they are still served from src.macosforge.org. Thank you. -Bill

Solution to libredo problem

Hello all, I'm new to darwinbuild and was having trouble trying to get it to build at all. I was getting the following error message. Undefined symbols for architecture ppc64: "_object_file_type", referenced from: SHA1DigestMachO::SHA1DigestMachO(char const*)in Digest.o Looking a bit closer, I realized that the problem was not the libredo.o that is being shipped as a binary in darwinbuild, but a libred_prebind.a that was already sitting on my system from something else. According to http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-67796.html this file was likely installed when I tested out PocketMac for my Blackberry. After removing PocketMac, it appears to leave behind a bunch of files that should probably have been removed. Unfortunately, the darwinbuild makefile was picking up the file from that old installation. After moving that file out of the way, I was able to get darwinbuild to compile. Now, I can move on to the real goal of building some Darwin code. Hopefully this message will help someone else out if they run into this problem. Thanks.

gdb build fails due to missing Carbon.h

Hi. I'm trying to build gdb, using the latest darwinbuild (yesterday's) and the 9G55 source. Building fails (after 14m 35s) because gdb/ gdb-768/src/gdb/macosx/macosx-tdep.c tries to include Carbon/Carbon.c. (Full log available if needed.) Does any package include Carbon.h? Or should I file a ticket and move on? It may be worth noting that the gdb root available (from 9A581) fails to run (in the PureDarwinXmas image) because it cannot link to Carbon.framework. Small fix for building AppleHWSensor (AssertMacros.h)

Hi, After my adventures with AppleFan, now AppleHWSensor. It builds correctly for a large part, but then bails out as follows: KernelModuleGeneratedSource.Create /private/var/tmp/AppleHWSensor/ AppleHWSensor-173.0.0.obj/AppleHWSensor.build/IOI2CLM6x.build/ DerivedSources/IOI2CLM6x_info.c In file included from IOI2CLM6x.h:29, from IOI2CLM6x.cpp:23: AppleHWSensorDebug.h:15:39: error: /usr/include/AssertMacros.h: No such file or directory After adding AssertMacros.h to the buildroot, AppleHWSensor builds successfully. Perhaps it's another candidate for CarbonHeaders? Thanks, Jonas

The error appears to be correct: the AppleFan package contains a Project Builder project rather than an Xcode project. Thanks, Jonas PS: I want to recompile that kext with the debugging code enabled, because the CPU B intake and exhaust fans constantly remain at idle speed (300 rpm) on my dual G5, resulting in lots of noise from the CPU A fans doing overtime as soon as the system gets slightly loaded. It's not that the CPU B fans cannot spin faster anymore (they work fine when the Apple Hardware Test cd tests them), nor that the temperature sensors are broken (the temperature sensors of CPU B consistently show a higher temperature than those of CPU A). While it does not appear to be a (pure) software problem either (booting in 10.3.4, the OS version the machine originally came with, does not appear to solve the problem), I'd like to take a look at what the kext is telling the fans to do.
