Hmm, in the past I got problems with curl ftp only, http_proxy works well, but it is necessary to use FTP_PROXY for the ftp proxy. But we use proxys for ftp and http and we use two systems, also it is necessary to use one for ftp and the other for http. Sorry no idea what's going wrong, ... Bye, Lutz p.s. I use 10.4.8 today.

Hello, I am new to macports (1.5.0) so please let me know if i am doing something incorrect. I am trying to install emacs-devel +carbon on OS X 10.5 and am getting an error. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? Imagemagick uninstall problems

Hi For quite a while I've been having problems upgrading and uninstalling imagemagick (I'm on Leopard but things on Tiger where the same). I just did port uninstall imagemagick and it no longer appears listed as installed. However, if I manually browse the bin/, lib/ etc. directories, the files are still there and usable. Indeed, if I now do port install imagemagick I get the message (after things are compiled and ready to install again) that animate, etc are still there. In the past, when upgrading imagemagick, the process always stopped at the installation phase because the issued uninstall didn't really uninstall the older files. I would then have to use -f option to force the install, which indeed worked but would otherwise also leave the old files around (with an added suffix .mp_somenumber). I would then have to manually erase them which is a tedious task. I've been using macports for a long time but never experienced this behavior before with other ports. Could someone fix this, please? I'm trying to install emacs +gtk and it barfs with a display of registers and memory followed by: Assertion failed: (filesize <= ranges->size), function unexec_regions_recorder, file /Users/kshaw/Desktop/Source/emacs-22.1/ src/unexmacosx.c, line 454. make[1]: *** [emacs] Abort trap make[1]: *** Deleting file `emacs' make: *** [src] Error 2 Do you know a fix? Incidentally, I tried building from source from downloading the tar and I get the same error during the build.

The ports usually fetch the software from the developers' web sites. We don't control them, so it's possible that they'll be down from time to time. But it shouldn't be a problem that often. You can also always fetch the software yourself, if you can find it elsewhere, and put it in the right place (which is /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/ ${name}). For sites that are frequently down, we sometimes mirror the distfiles on our own server. You could show us the exact error messages you're getting so we can look into it and see what's going on.

Getting rid of firefox-x11...

Hi everyone, At some stage I wanted to install yelp which requires firefox-x11. Then I uninstalled yelp, cleaned firefox-x11, BUT still it wants to install firefox-x11 when I want to install gnucash +without_docs. The only Portfiles where I find mention of that port is yelp and firefox-x11.
