Jeremy,
I've been playing this evening and overall, it goes well. However, I
have gotten a couple of crashes. In both cases, I was trying to open
as many X11 apps as possible (both times it was somewhere between
12-15 X11 apps with displays open). In both cases, it is not clear
that there is any action that will reproduce the crash.
The first was a crash in quartz-wm. In this case, I was trying to
pick up and move the qtoctave window that was residing under one of
the gimp mini-panels, I was a bit sloppy with the mouse and X11
crashed with the report being quartz-wm (see the attachment).
The second was a crash in X11.bin. In this case, I was playing with
xephem for a while, then went to play in gimp and it crashed almost as
soon as I clicked on the gimp window to bring it forward (see the
attachment).
Finally, I've noticed that in ImageMagick, the display window and
panes are painted all black including pop-up menus, etc (I have not
seen this with any other app thus far).
I also played with the remote display of some legacy X11 apps from a
Solaris box. This all went fine without issue.
Overall, it seems to be much faster than 2.3.2.1.
FYI, I'm on a Mac Pro with an ATI 2600 driving dual 23" displays (thus
far, no issues moving apps between displays, etc).
I'll keep playing over the next several days to see if I can find
other problems, but from my perspective, 2.4.0 appears to be a good
start. Thanks!
Merle
