Announcing MacPorts release 1.4.3

The MacPorts team is very proud to announce our third release of MacPorts within several days. The pace of change has been fast and furious. This time we're just furious: Release 1.4.3 (17-Apr-2007): - Fix bug in launchd support, introduced in 1.4.2. Remove remnants of launchd enable flag which caused reversion to systemstarter in 1.4.2. (jberry r24151). - add functions 'backup' and 'lipo' along with some description to be used for lipo-based universal variants, tested with openssl. These functions should be considered test only for the time being, and should not yet be adopted widely by port authors. (pipping r24148). If you installed ports with 1.4.2 that have startup items, they were installed with SystemStarter, rather than Launchd support. You'll want to rebuild and reinstall those ports. We (singular) apologize for this issue. James

Expat includes not found

I am compiling psi with jingle support on Mac. It needs expat. I installed expat 2.0 with macports and it is active. What path do I need to specify in ./configure --with-expat-inc=[PATH] for it to work? I also tried uninstalling expat from macports and compiling it from source my self, ./configure still doesn't work either. If this helps: dima:/usr/local/include cliff$ ls -F Magick++/ expat_external.h magick/ Magick++.h freetype2/ ortp/ QtCrypto/ ft2build.h png.h@ aquaterm/ gettext-po.h pngconf.h@ aspell.h libintl.h pspell/ autosprintf.h libpng12/ uninameslist.h expat.h libwmf/ wand/ dima:/usr/local/include cliff$ I remember it somewhere said to use libtool to link libraries or something. fltk problems

Hi all, I have just recently started to use macports under OSX and I am replacing all my manually installed libraries/tools with ones installed via macports. I've run into many problems with the fltk-1.1.7 port... 1. It crashes with a bus error. If I build it manually it works OK. I think this is related to the following issues. 2. It is built as an x11 library even though it places the resulting "fluid" application into /Applications/MacPorts/fltk and asks you to bless the file with "fltk-config --post", both of which imply it should be a native aqua application. 3. It isn't built with --enable-threads which is needed by quite a few apps. 4. It depends on many libraries which come with OSX, but forces you to build redundant versions of them through macports. In my brief experience with macports it seems that fltk needs to have multiple variants to handle the above issues. One of my questions is that should the base variant of fltk be the x11 version or should it be aqua with the variant being x11? Also, is there a way to dynamically have macports know if preinstalled versions of libraries exist and use them instead? Many thanks. --Ken

gnome-panel 2.18.0 fails to build

Hi Building gnome-panel 2.18.0 fails when it tries to compile calendar-client.c. The problem seems to be that it includes /opt/local/include/evolution-data-server-1.8 instead of /opt/local/include/evolution-data-server-1.10, which is actually installed in my case. An update to my previous report. I think that the issue is due to the changeset 23238 and how the new procedures command_exec and parse_environment in portutil.tcl are managing the unarchive.env variable and the pipes. With the release 1.4.0 of MacPorts, the assembled command was 'cd "/opt/local/var/db/dports/build/ _opt_local_var_db_dports_sources_rsync.rsync.darwinports.org_dpupdate_dp orts_archivers_unrar /work/destroot" && /usr/bin/gzip -d -c /opt/local/var/db/dports/ packages/darwin/powerpc/ unrar-3.7.4_0.powerpc.tgz | /usr/bin/tar -xvpf -' With the latest sources, the content of unarchive.env (the gzip command) is missing from the pipe: 'cd "/opt/local/var/db/dports/build/ _opt_local_var_db_dports_sources_rsync.rsync.darwinports.org_dpupdate_dp orts_archivers_unrar/ work/destroot" && /usr/bin/tar -xvpf -'.
