mysql5 problem?

When using the mysql5 +server port, I can't connect locally to mysql using localhost (root). Only 127.0.0.1 and the unix socket works. Any ideas how to fix? A lot of people have this problem on other platforms, as seen here in the comments section here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/can-not-connect-to-server.html However, none of those suggested fixed worked. I even tried removing the Unix socket line from the port file to see if that worked, but it did not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Karl

postgresql82 build fails ... needs libxslt?

Dear Macports, I just tried to install postgresql82 and it bombs out, unable to find libxslt header files. After I installed libxslt, postgres built ok. Is postgresql82 missing a 'build dependency' on libxslt? Thanks. -DB

Ports that install binaries

Are there any ports that install binaries? I mean, any ports that don't compile things themselves, but which download binaries and just install them? I'm thinking about isightcapture, which is an interesting project: http://www.intergalactic.de/hacks.html But source is not distributed, so the only option for including it in MacPorts would be to download the disk image, mount it and copy the binary in to the right place. Would this be acceptable? Or is it deemed that in this case the project should not appear in MacPorts? If it is acceptable, is there an example of a port that mounts a disk image and copies files from it?

getting subversion compiled with openssl

Hi I'd like subversion to be able to get data from https:// repositories. I'm new to ports. When I did `port install subversion` I saw openssl flash by but it doesn't look like it pulled it in as it still fails. In linux I'd do `ldd /path/to/svn` to see if it was linked to openssl but don't know how to do similar on a mac? Anyone have any pointers for what I need to do to make this happen? Please clear up DarwinPort/MacPorts confusion

Hi all. I've decided to use MacPorts for my Intel-based MacBook, but the web pages seem a bit confusing. First, the DarwinPorts page looks as if it's still active. The only mention of the switch to MacPorts is in a news entry. And even in that there's no link to the new website. The rest of the DarwinPorts site still looks like nothing has changed. It seems to me that that page should be completely changed to be just a single page that tells people that the DarwinPorts project has transitioned to the MacPorts project and gives them a big link over the the MacPorts page. Second, the MacPorts page doesn't have much infomration. No "About" page explaining anything. And most importantly, nothing explaining what the "current stable version" is. So when I go to Downloads I see DarwinPorts 1.3.2 and MacPorts 1.4, yet since the Website doesn't have any information about this 1.4 release, I don't know if this is alpha, beta, or what. Can someone please explain what the deal is with this MacPorts 1.4 release? Is that the current recommended download or is it just an alpha or a beta? Thanks --Dan
