newbie selfupdate fails

I've been trying for a couple daze to get Darwin/MacPorts to install but still have problems. I followed the directions on the wiki http://trac.macosforge.org/projects/macports/wiki/InstallingMacPorts but when I get to the update step I get.... $ sudo port -d selfupdate DEBUG: Rebuilding the MacPorts base system if needed. py-psycopg2 port a little bit out of date

I also tried changing the Portfile to download directly from the source site but to no avail, so I ended up downloading it manually and then I stuffed the tar.gz file in: /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/python That worked for me, but sorry I wasn't able to figure out a better way to modify the Portfile to get this to work. Macports upgrade problem

Hi All, Well I guess my basic question is what is the best way to upgrade. I just tried: sudo port -d - R upgrade gnome users-docs After a endless wait I get: ... ... Also, from the looks of the output upgrade is checking port that already have been check. It might advidable to gather a list of ports checked and skipping those. This would definately speed up the pocess. Or am I missing something. regards Keith.

Any suggestions on what > could > be done about this one? Yes I noticed ... the solution (at least for me) was to uninstall and then reinstall xemacs completely (ie ensure it is recompiled). This probably applies to anything that linked in Xaw3d.dylib as the install location of it shifted in 1.5E_1. Previously in 1.5E_0 it installed a bunch of soft links in /usr/X11R6/ lib pointing I can't remember where and xemacs, gv linked against those. Now it installs in /opt/local/lib. derek.

Gkrellm 2.3.0_0's mailcheck does not like SSL

Hi, I have been using for a while now gkrellm 2.2.10_0 and I just upgraded to 2.3.0_0. Everything seems to work fine, except for mailcheck. In 2.3.0 for some reason it starts to dislike imap-ssl connections. When such a thing is present, mailcheck fails to retrieve anything from the server. Note that imap-ssl worked fine in 2.2.10 and works fine with my email client. I don't even know how to diagnose it any further, so any pointer is indeed appreciated (especially given that I access all my mailboxes over imap-ssl). Many thanks in advance, Stefan

groff / eqn / ps2pdf / square root problem

I really don't know where to direct this problem. I have a manuscript that I format with groff -e -ms that has an inline equation using the eqn "sqrt" operator. When I format the manuscript to postscript, and look at it (with gv) or print it on a postscript printer, the square- root radical comes out perfectly. However, when I use ps2pdf to "distill" the postscript to pdf, the equation is a complete mess: it starts OK, prints the √ ok, but then backspaces about an inch, and prints the rest semi-randomly on top of the first part. When I use Adobe or pstopdf, I get slightly different errors, but neither is correct. It appears to be an interaction between how groff generates the postscript code and how the pdf distillers interpret it. I am using OSX 10.4.10, groff 1.19.2_1, and ghostscript 8.54_0. For the moment, I've used a little algebra and rewritten the relevant section of my manuscript in such a way as to avoid the square root, but it would be really great if someone could take a look at this for future purposes.
