autoconf/configure problems

I'm still trying to track down the bug in the port for libmng. I've tried to contact the maintainer but have heard nothing. In the build process it appears that autoconf generates a configure script, but executing 'configure' does nothing. It does not go through the normal checks and it does not create a Makefile it simply prints nothing and exits. Without the Makefile the installation can't proceed. config.log shows exit 0. My ports installation is up to date and synced. I'm on a PBook G4 with 10.4.10 Dave

hi, I've been trying to install the port libgda, but got errors: /opt/local/var/macports/build/ _opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_gnome_l ibgda/work/libgda-1.2.4/po Making all in po file=`echo az | sed 's,.*/,,'`.gmo \ && rm -f $file && -o $file az.po /bin/sh: line 1: -o: command not found make[1]: *** [az.gmo] Error 127 make: *** [all-recursive] Error 1 the lone "-o" appeared because neither MSFGMT or GMSGFMT was set in the Makefile in the ./po directory after some searching I found a hint in the FreBSD "Porters Handbook": http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/porters-handbook/ using-gettext.html so with birch:/opt/local/var/macports/build/ _opt_local_var_macports_sources_rsync.macports.org_release_ports_gnome_l ibgda/work/libgda-1.2.4# CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/local/include" LDFLAGS="-L/ opt/local/lib" ./configure --without-bdb it compiled cleanly. --without-bdb is set because of another error from that area I ignored - (I don't need BDB support, anyway) with the build dir prepared like that, the "port install libgda" completed successfully how would I tell the port to add such a configure option? regards Florenz

Request for DB Designer

The web site has source code but it is for Delphi or Kylix. I don't have those tools. The PC-BSD mob have obviously got it running on BSD. Does anyone have the know-how to get it into MacPorts? malcolm

GD2 not showing up in phpinfo

Hi this is probably pretty basic, but I've recently added a new port for the first time since installing darwinports ages ago. Is there something I need to do to get GD2 to start working and show up in my phpinfo.php page? I even tried to upgrade to php5 but I'm getting this error: ---> Activating php5 5.2.4_0+darwin_8+macosx Error: Target org.macports.activate returned: Image error: /opt/local/etc/php.ini-dist is being used by the active php4 port. Please deactivate this port first, or use the -f flag to force the activation. Error: Status 1 encountered during processing. I don't want any of my existing services to die and I really don't know my way around terminal too well. Can anyone give me some advice/commands to get things up and running? Thanks, Matt

I am trying to install the ssmtp port, but get the following error fetching. Problem installing Firefox-X11 with Gnucash

I too was having problems trying to install gnucash. I did the following: 1. Edited the portfile and added --enable-system-cairo to the configure.args 2. Re-issued: sudo port install firefox-x11. Since the portfile changed, it re built the whole app. To find the portfile, do "port file firefox-x11" at the shell prompt. The modified portion of the file now looks like: configure.args --enable-application=browser \ --enable-official-branding \ --disable-static \ --enable-shared \ --enable-default-toolkit=gtk2 \ --enable-xft \ --disable-freetype2 \ --enable-xinerama \ --with-pthreads \ --enable-gnomevfs \ --enable-postscript \ --disable-prebinding \ --disable-debug \ --enable-strip \ --enable-optimize='-O2' \ --disable-tests \ --with-default-mozilla-five-home=${prefix}/lib/firefox \ --with-system-jpeg=${prefix} \ --with-system-zlib=${prefix} \ --enable-system-cairo \ --with-system-png=${prefix} (Make sure there are no spaces after the '\', and I used tabs, not spaces, to indent the line). Overlay support?

Hi, I'm new to macports. I did some searching of the documentation and couldn't find an answer to this question. Does macports have an equivalent of an overlay in Gentoo portage ( http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Installing_3rd_Party_Ebuilds)? An overlay allows you to make local customizations to ports or add new ports locally that aren't part of the main tree. The use case that I'm interested in is being able to add a new variant to php5 to support the "--enable-sockets" option. Ultimately, I think it should be incorporated into the macports distribution but there should be a way to experiment with local modifications to Portfiles without corrupting what gets rsynced from macports.org and worrying that it will get overwritten with next rsync. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Roger

Re: how to make better use of native tools

I'm not a port expert but I have an opinion... The problem is this: the port system exists to give you access to all this wonderful open source library. Apple likes open source tools but they have no commitment to interoperability or standards. So if you rely on their infrastructure, it may change slowly but it can break any time. I built a cross compiler toolchain to build linux powerpc binaries on my intel mac. There was a great cross compile tool chain builder for linux that did not work on Mac because of OS X inconsistencies with make and other standard tools. Ironically I was able to make the script work by over riding mac versions of these tools with port versions. I'll trade inconvenience for standards and control. There are people that come to ports just so they can have the "standard" version of a tool. David
